Review Policy

Formats I accept:

  • ebooks that are compatible with kindle/book funnel/netgalley reader/other ebook systems if they are compatible with my devices. I am on Net Galley & Book Sirens so if your book is on either of those platforms and you reach out I will do my best to fit you in!
  • Paperbacks & Hardbacks – I prefer print copies if possible, I live in the UK

Where do I post my reviews?

  • Goodreads (short form 100 words, overall 5 star rating)
  • Storygraph (short form 100 words, content/trigger warnings, overall 5 star rating, pacing, and other things the website supports)
  • Fable (short form reviews, content/trigger warnings, overall rating (with decimal stars) and other details!)
  • Here! I post on Damsel in Delight, long form reviews usually around 500 words, ratings and content warnings.
  • Booklists, various memes (Top Ten Tuesday, Waiting for Wednesday etc)
  • If it is an ARC copy from a specific website (Net Galley, Book Sirens etc) then I also post on there.

Genres I do read –

  • Fantasy -especially political fantasy, dragon fantasy, any kind of magical creature based fantasy novel really, low or high fantasy and also some grimdark as well as classic and cosy fantasy.
  • Sci-fi
  • Dystopian
  • Romantasy (for this look lower down at my romance levels of what I am comfortable with)
  • Short Stories if they are around any of these genres
  • Romance (again look at the romance ratings to see if yours fits)
  • Mystery Thrillers (In the vein of a good girls guide to murder and one of us is lying but nothing too psychological without content warnings).
  • Urban/Paranormal Fantasy
  • Historical Fiction (because it has historical basis then there is usually higher levels of content so if your book falls into this category please add content warnings.)

Genres I don’t –

  • Erotica
  • Spicy Romance
  • Non-Fiction
  • Horror
  • True Crime/anything in that vein.

My Ranking System

I rate out of 5 stars for World, Plot, Romance and Characters (giving little details as I do so you can see just what I love about these different elements to see if the book is for you) and if it is an exceptional cornerstone of the genre kind of worldbuilding or characterisation etc I will give a 10000/5 which means that it is really a defining golden example of that genre.

Five Stars – This was really good, well thought out, no things that made me falter, and fitted the story perfectly. I am going to add this to my rereads list and if you have a few 5 star things it will probably end up on a booklist/meme post at some point.

Four Stars – I enjoyed it, it was a good premise I just thought a few details/things were missing from being completely absorbed in the story.

Three Stars – It was almost there! The story felt a little disconnected/out of place to me but I would still read the second book if I have rated it higher in other areas!

I rarely post if it is lower on my blog, but if you have sent me the copy independently I will email you with a preface of what I would be saying (and my star ratings) so you can tell me if you would still like me to promote your book.

Please be up front about content warnings if you are sending me a copy to review, especially for SA, domestic abuse, toxic relationships, extreme violence or sexual content. I reserve the right to DNF and not review if the content is something I am not comfortable with and especially was not warned beforehand off.

If you aren’t sure if your book fits with my blog I’d love to chat about it with you – my email is lottie@damselindelight and I aim to respond to all queries within a couple of days.

Romantic content

NA:– nothing is really present, it isn’t the focus or a subplot.

Soft: perhaps a kiss or two, no detail.

Sweet: Kissing, cuddling, clothes on, mild innuendo.

Suggestive: The flirtation becomes more physical — making out, caresses, breathlessness, mostly clothed but doesn’t take it any further on the page, discussions of sex/sleeping with each other, can have some strong innuendo.

Sizzling/Smokey: Closed Door/Fade to Black: This can float between or slightly above Sweet and Suggestive but we don’t get any details beyond making out.

While I do occasionally review books that are open door (but still YA) if they are later in the series I am not currently accepting them for ARCS.

It can be hard to pin point where the book is exactly so feel free to contact me with specifics!

I also love doing blog tours, reviews, interviews and Q&A’s. If you want to know more about my review process and how I can schedule your book tour/interview/review/etc into my blog, please contact me with your questions!
